'Wrinkled noses and puckered lips - sometimes this is my family's reaction to my cooking, especially when I'm trying something new in the kitchen. Recently, I had a breakthrough with a unique version of macaroni cheese. I jotted down the ingredients and tucked the recipe away for future reference. Without that set of instructions, I knew the next batch would be a flop.
Without God's instructions, Joshua would have failed at leading the Israelites into the Promised Land. The first step was to "be strong and of good courage" (Josh. 1:6). NEXT, he was to continually meditate on the Book of the Law, and FINALLY, he was to do everything it said. AS long as Joshua followed the directions, God PROMISED him "good success" (v.8).
God's "RECIPE for success" can work for us too, but His idea of success has little to do with money, popularity, or even good health! IN the original Hebrew, "then you will have good success" means "then you will act wisely." Just as God called Joshua to walk in wisdom, He wants us to "walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise" (Ephesians 5:15).

SYDNEY REFUGEE TEAM
"Recently I went to a Sudanese lady's house for her regular English lesson. She wasn't at home, and as I sat in the car, feeling a little frustrated and trying to decide how much longer to wait, I heard someone calling my name. It was Rachel (name has been changed to protect identity), an African lady I had met once a few months back who was out for a walk with four of her seven children.
I was amazed that she had remembered me and we chatted while I cuddled one of her gorgeous little babies. Her husband had been in Africa for eight months and within ten minutes she had shared with me her loneliness and struggles in coping with all the children while he was away.
The next week I visited Rachel and her children. The kids were delighted to have a "special visitor" and spent the day climbing all over me, and Rachel was happy to have another adult to talk to and have some help with the babies. Since then we have become good friends
and I feel like I have been welcomed not only into her home but into her family as well.
Rachel is an amazing woman. She has spent 20 of her 29 years in two separate refugee camps in Africa after fleeing civil war in southern Sudan. She came to Australia five years ago, speaks four languages, manages a household of seven children and does it all with a smile. We talk about all sorts of things - cooking, life in Africa, life in Sydney, our joys and sorrows - we even compare notes on raising teenagers! I've been able to talk to her about God and his love for her, and she acknowledges his presence and where she has seen Him go before her in her own journey.
As I think back on that day, I am reminded again that God's plans are different to mine, that his thoughts are higher than mine. I thought I was there to teach English, but He had a different agenda, one that has made a huge impact on the lives of others.
Pray for Rachel. I count it as a privilege to call her a friend. My visits may have helped ease her loneliness a little, but I wait expectantly to see God himself step into her life and fill the voids in it". By Sally Jones.

*** EMBRACING the Moment !! ***
Here I go.. WOW.. I'm embracing this moment! Am looking forward to posting some little gems of encouragement, if not just for myself. Heard the other day that with every negative pinion in life there is always a positive "pinion" that can be realised to take its place. A pinion can mean a bird's wing being disabled (or confined) and it can also be described as a small cog-wheel. At the most, a small cog-wheel can move. I'm thankful that at the most, I can move. A small cog-wheel simulated with much challenge in life.. PLAN, plan and plan with an eye to the future. I owe to be kind to myself.. that then allows me to value myself!
It's Christmas in seven (7) weeks and wonder where this year has gone.. It's been and it's gone (the older I become, time progressively seems to pass). Christmas purposes the good choice of a wonderful creative time of gift giving! Gifts don't always need to be wrapped or presented in a box. Brightly coloured flowers or a very pretty single Rose can be delivered during the Christmas season.. your choice. Going out for a "cuppa" is always on my agenda. Cinema tickets are great. The world is indeed our PERSONAL "Oyster" where we can choose to reflect a little "fingerprint" of ourselves in gift-giving to someone else.. for someone else. Tomorrow.. I will look into some cooking.. maybe, for Christmas. Once again, it's up to choice!
