* UNLIKELY Heroes ..
"Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen" - HEBREWS 11:1.
"THE Lord makes heroes out of very unlikely people. One such person is Angie Garber. She was born with a severe facial deformity. The surgery to correct her appearance left her deaf in one ear.
In her teens, Angie contracted polio. She survived, but after months of agonizing therapy and exercise her left leg and arm remained weak. During this difficult time her mother became ill. Angie and one of her sisters cared for their mom till she died.
Her brother George, who had done more to encourage Angie than any other person, died in an accident. And then crop failure made it necessary to sell the family farm.
But through it all, Angie kept praying that she could someday serve the Lord as a missionary-teacher. God honored her desire, and about 5 years after her mother's death Angie began her life's work as a teacher for Navajo Mission. She became such an effective Christian worker that two books have been written about her. Today her happy face reflects her inner joy. Angie faced incredible obstacles in her walk of faith. Yet, like the heroes of faith listed in Hebrews 11, she continued to trust God.
If you're discouraged and feel like giving up, remember, God makes spiritual heroes out of unlikely people" - HVL.

* IllUSTRATION ..
"I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism, but accepts men from every nation" (ACTS 10: 34-35).
"We had been asked to leave our mission field and serve on our board's administrative team in the States.
FOR a year, Ev served as a guest professor at Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky. When his teaching assignment ended, he was asked to become vice-president of field ministries. As I suddenly realized that I would not be going back to Korea, I prayed, "Lord, don't take Korea out of my heart, but stretch me to love other countries just as much." God did exactly that. An encounter on a flight from Singapore to Manila serves as an illustration.
A young family sat near me on the crowded plane. The beautiful mother had two small boys. NEXT to me sat the father, and before we were off the ground, he asked who I was and where I was going. He then told me that he worked for Gillette in the Philippines.
He began to ask questions about Christianity - not just, "Who is Jesus Christ?" but rather, "If God created us, who created God?" We talked at length about cults and Christianity. Before we parted, they invited us to their home.
At dinner around their lovely table, they accepted Christ. Two big tears trickled down the mother's lovely face - a sight I shall never forget. The following day, they met our missionaries, and later they were baptised.
My stretched heart included him, not a Korean but a Chinese from Malaysia who spoke impeccable English, lived in Manila and later emigrated to Australia.
THIS couple represents our world. Affluent? Yes.
But they had the same need to know Jesus.
(Jesus needs our love to reach others like them.)"

* The Original .. 'VELVETEEN Rabbit' (remember?) !!
"What is REAL?" asked the Rabbit one day, when they were lying side by side near the nursery fender, before Nana came to tidy the room. "Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?"
"Real isn't how you are made," said the Skin Horse. "It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real."
"Does it hurt?" asked the Rabbit.
"Sometimes," said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. "When you are Real you don't mind being hurt."
"Does it happen all at once, like being wound up," he asked, "or bit by bit?"
"It doesn't happen all at once," said the Skin Horse. "You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't often happen to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand."
"I suppose you are Real?" said the Rabbit.
And then he wished he had not said it, for he thought the Skin Horse might be sensitive. But the Skin Horse only smiled.
"The Boy's Uncle made me Real," he said.
"That was a great many years ago; but once you are Real you can't become unreal again"
(from The Original VELVETEEN RABBIT by Margery Williams).

* DIETARY FIBRE - Immune system diet link ..
AUSTRALIAN Scientists have found a direct link between what we eat and how well our Immune system operates, a breakthrough that could explain rising rates of auto-immune (inflammatory) disease across the Western world.
Professor Charles Mackay, working at Sydney's Garvan Institute of Medical Research, has identified how Fibre in the Diet plays a major role in ensuring a Person's immune cells function properly.
His research, published in the Journal Nature, also signals the shift of what had been a fringe concept into the scientific mainstream.
"THIS potentially explains all the previous data that no one had taken that seriously", Mackay says.
"I think it's fair to say the broader Immunological Research community has never really believed that diet affects immune responses.
"THIS does provide a direct link for the way Immune cells work with the sort of things we eat".
WORKING along with PhD Student Kendle Maslowski, Mackay investigated the operation of an immune-cell receptor known to bind with short-chain fatty acids - what Fibre is reduced to once it is processed by Bacteria in the gut.
THIS broken-down Fibre was found to "profoundly affect immune-cell function", Mackay says,
and without it the Immune cells appeared more likely to go awry.
Auto-immune disease refers to disorders in which a Person's immune system mistakenly attacks parts of the body, causing inflammation.
"WHEN (Immune cells) go bad they cause inflammatory diseases - Asthma, Rheumatoid Arthritis, inflammatory Bowel disease", Mackay says.
"We think one of the mechanisms for their normal control is short-chain fatty acids binding to this receptor.
"And, if we were to speculate on the real significance of this, we believe firmly that the best explanation for the increase in inflammatory diseases in Western Countries...is our changes in diet".
A lack of Dietary Fibre could also be behind the rise in Type-1 Diabetes, Mackay says.
The Research suggests that having a healthy Diet rich in Fruits, Vegetables, Nuts and Seeds would reduce a Person's risk of auto-immune (inflammatory) disease.
IT also helps explain why food supplements that affect the balance of Gut Bacteria were known to reduce the symptoms of some inflammatory conditions.
Mackay says Dietary Fibre, or Roughage, was otherwise known to reduce the risk of Cardiovascular Disease and certain Cancers, plus it ensures you will be regular.
"The role of Nutrition...is an exciting new topic in Immunology", he says. *(December 2009)

** THE Oyster !! **
"WHEN seemingly needless suffering invades our lives, we often ask ourselves, "Who needs all this grief?" But consider, for a moment, the origin of pearls!
EACH Pearl is formed by an Oyster's internal response to a wound caused by an irritant, such as a grain of sand. Resources of repair rush to the injured area. The final result is a lustrous Pearl. Something beautiful is created that would have been impossible without the wound.
IN today's Bible reading ("God has caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction" - GENESIS 41:52.), we see Joseph IN a position of influence, a position God soon used to feed surrounding Nations and Joseph's family during famine. But, how did he become influential? It began with a wound - being sold into slavery (Genesis 39) - which produced a pearl of usefulness. BECAUSE Joseph drew on God's resources when humiliated, he became better, NOT bitter. He named his second son Ephraim, which means "twice fruitful", and he said, "God has caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction" (Genesis 41:52).
Author Paul E. Billheimer says of Joseph, "If human pity could have rescued him from the sad part of his life, the glorious part that followed would have been lost". So, if your'e suffering, remember: No wounds, no pearls"! - JEY.
If we accept adversity,
Enduring every pain,
Then we will learn what we should know;
Our grief will turn to gain. - Sper

PROVISION ..
"Be still, and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10)".
"IN these pressure-filled days, this admonition is difficult to keep. There is such a feeling of restlessness and hurry all around us. "I must do THIS and THAT; I must go HERE and THERE. . ."
We Christians find ourselves in a real battle. It is so easy to be distracted when so many activities are crying for our time and attention. God commands us to "Be still, and know that (He is) God".
In Luke's account of Mary and Martha, we see that Martha loved Jesus Christ, but she was greatly occupied with service. She became anxious and irritable and lost the joy that should be part of serving. While Martha was bustling about and complaining, Mary sat quietly, listening to Jesus' words, experiencing the joy of getting to know her Lord and the sweetness of fellowship with Him. Jesus commended Mary for her choice.
There has to be a balance of fellowship and service. We are NOT always to sit, but when we allow service to come before our fellowship, we lose the joy of serving.
In First Corinthians 1:9, Paul tells us that God has called us into the fellowship of Christ. Regardless of the demand of duty and the invitation of many activities, it is vital to our Christian growth and joy that we spend time with Jesus. We must be still and listen to Him speak through His Word. We must always take time to express ourselves to Him in prayer!
The desire of Paul's heart was to know Christ. May this be the desire of our own hearts" (Dana JACOBSON).

** The Colour YELLOW (delightful adventure) !!! **
Our little grandaughter and her Dad came around to help my Hubby build a vegetable Garden ("Patch"). They stayed for lunch then "chuffed off" at about 2pm. as her Dad had building commitments to fulfill.
Been cool again today (of COURSE - and it will VERY soon be Spring! Time does diminish quickly, even more so it seems, especially as I become older in years. I suppose it's because I'm aware of the less time in which to DO/accomplish.)
Will be great to feel more of the warmth of the Sun upon my skin once this Winter has passed. I suspect that most people will be pleased about that too!
Enjoyed a delicious cup of organic "ASSAM" Tea about an hour ago and was admiring the sprouted cheerful Daffodils in the neighbours' Gardens' on my path home (*by the way, the colour Yellow is the most cheerful/mood-brightening colour to wear/or present to a person who is convalescing)!
It's been a pleasant day and hope it has been pleasant for you also!

* CROUTON Sundae (Comical) !
A Woman was eating with her friend in a Restaurant and asked the Waiter that if she "swapped the Cherry for a Crouton on top of a Sundae, would that count as a Salad?"
ANOTHER person ordering a meal
in a Restaurant said that she was ordering broiled Chicken but was really ordering Lasagna with a Garlic Bread by mistake!
The General Practitioner asked her Patient what would better fit in with his "daily exercise regime ... an hour on the Treadmill or being dead for 24 hours a day?"

* INCEPTION ?
LOOKED in the Dictionary to see if there is a meaning of the word Inception and to my surprise, there is. It means "beginning".
NEEDLESS to say, that my Hubby and I attended a session of the current Movie called Inception (Leonardo DiCaprio). I would say that it's a Movie you'd either like or dislike. We found it to be a thrilling script of mystery and espionage (a jigsaw with a spy twist)!
*It's worth a look but prepare to focus so that the gist (substance) of the story won't be missed.

** DIGITAL families ? . . "No one . . . (factual) **
Was switching from Channel to Channel yesterday to escape Advertisement after Advertisement and decided to watch a little of a Movie that was showing at that time!
It had people going through a Supermarket in slow-motion and a Woman saying in her thoughts something like how we as Humans read the ingredients on a processed pack, then we acknowledge all the Chemicals placed in it, and because we and our families enjoy it, we buy it anyway.
The Woman made quite a profound statement in her thinking by finalising that "No one thinks about death in a Supermarket"
(My Life Without Me - Television Movie).
Wanted to write that.

"TODAY" ..
DEAR Diary,
TODAY is very cold, but nonetheless, my Husband and I tended to the Garden while we were able to inbetween bouts of Rain rushes. IT has been a good time because we mineral-fertilised plants and shifted some pots with Roses and Geranium. IT always gives us satisfaction knowing we have achieved (no matter how small it may be). WE are indeed grateful!
OH dear! I've "run out" of something of thought to talk about. MAYBE that's a good thing as now I can rest.
PLEASE consider disposing anxiety (in other words, "Take care").k.

* NEW-fashion Cooking ? (Historical) . . .
. . . is it enough to give you indigestion?
* "INDIGESTION. Persons subject to indigestion are of weak and delicate habits, or else of a sedentary disposition. The free use of cold water in drinking, washing, and bathing, will frequently affect a cure alone. . . . the following is quaint!
* "WHEN only a few drops of lemon juice are required, prick the end of the lemon with a silver fork and squeeze out what you need. The holes will close up and it will be as good as new until you use it again" (Helen Arbib & Pauline Clements).

* "IT is at the same time both a serious and ludicrous reflection that it should be thought to do honour to our friends and ourselves to set out a table where indigestion and the whole catalogue of human diseases lie lurking in almost every dish" (THE HOUSEKEEPER'S GUIDE. M. RADCLIFFE, 1822).
. . . also,
* "IN the Molucca Islands, no one is allowed to wear a hat near a flowering Clove tree, for fear it will become alarmed and refuse to bear fruit" (Helen Arbib & Pauline Clements).

* Controversial COFFEE (Historical) ! ! *
"TRY adding a pinch of salt and a dash of dry mustard to bring out the flavour
- and never ever,
say the experts, boil it!
IRISH COFFEE is for those people who like a touch of drama when they entertain. It takes a while to make . . . but you've got all night.
In each pre-warmed Irish Whiskey glass - or coffee cup, pour:
1 tablespoon (Irish Whiskey)
and ignite it.
Then add immediately:
1/2 cup hot strong black Coffee.

* "Brightening up" ?? .. (Comical)
Dear Diary, The cold weather is so Icy and I think it's getting to me abit. Can't take to long periods of Icy weather nor periods of Humid hot weather although I can tolerate hot dry days. Thought I'd try and "brighten up" with a couple of jokes! "Your finger is in my bowl of soup!" said the man. "Don't worry", said the Waiter. "'cause the soup isn't hot". Have you heard about the fellow who went into an 'Open 24 hours a day' store and asked what time they closed? .. oh, and did you hear about the Hitchhiker? He got up early so there wouldn't be much traffic around.

* NICE ..
Dear Diary,
It's nice to be kind (and compassionate) to ourselves and sometimes include a treat (or two?).
All the best.k.

* THE senses !!
"THERE are people who commit acts of cruelty so monstrous, you have to barricade your senses from contemplating them, because if you don't, their images will ruin every pleasure you know" (David R. Dow).
* PREquel !!
Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people - LUKE 2:10.
"The angel who announced the birth of Jesus to the shepherds said that he came to them with "good tidings of great joy" (Luke 2:10). Many people today hear these words about "great joy" but don't understand them. They relish the season as they decorate their homes, shop in cheerful malls, attend festive parties, and exchange gifts with the ones they love. But after all the excitement subsides, they feel empty and joyless.
Others don't like the season at all. Many have no money for gifts or decorations. Some have no friends with whom to celebrate. The atmosphere of cheer around them actually deepens their feelings of sadness.
The problem with both groups is that they wrongly identify the "great joy" of which the angel spoke. It is found not in the superficial fun but in the deeper meaning of the Christmas season. WHEN Jesus was born, God became a man so that He could save us from our sins (*by dying on a Cross and THEN being raised from the dead on the third (3rd.) day) and give us the joyful prospect of eternity in heaven (providing that we sincerely accept Him personally to come into our heart - that's the AGREEMENT in His Holy word; the Bible). *THAT'S the true reason for joy !
The shepherds went back to the cold nights and loneliness of their vocation, but they were "glorifying and praising God" (verse 20).
The real meaning of Christmas is indeed "good tidings of great joy . . . to all people" (verse 10)." - HVL.

* KEEP SHINING (an endearing true story) ..
In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:16).
"This verse was dramatically illustrated when we were missionaries in Vietnam during the war. While our husbands were away from home, a missionary friend and I were invited by a Korean general to an important military ceremony. The only women amidst thousands of Korean, Vietnamese and American troops, we sat on the reviewing stand with the three-nation generals to watch the elaborate ceremonies and observe the presentation of medals to individuals and units. Later, after hors d'oeuvres, we were among the guests selected to receive lovely gifts.
Still thoroughly mystified as to why we had been invited, we were conducted to the general's mess where we ate a sumptuous meal on crested china and gold-plated flatware.
Finally, at the end of the meal, the Korean general called for his interpreter and, after polite opening conversation on both sides, said to me, "I am sure you are wondering why I invited you here today!" He continued with this remarkable comment: "When I was a small boy in Korea, an American lady missionary led me to Jesus Christ, and I never had an opportunity to thank her. So wherever I go, I look up the missionaries and honor them!"
Someone had faithfully let her light shine, and a little boy, one day to be a leader of his nation, came into its lightpath.
There are no doubt many who have illuminated our paths through this life. As we are obedient to His command (*firstly, by sincerely asking Him to come into our heart) there will be those whose lives we may brighten. Let your light so shine!" (CHARLOTTE STEMPLE)

* "FROM my Pen" ?? (a comical situation) !! *
Hi Dear Diary,
I seem to be able to speak more fluently when I'm directing my conversation to someone!
Was looking for something to write for TODAY and came across some idiosyncrastic book Titles thought of and written down on paper by our Daughters' during a cold School-holiday. Those pieces of scribbled paper have been kept for years (not sure for how long). I'd like to share a few of them if that's alright? They're quite amusing.
Firstly, the scribbled paper was loosened from a Writing-pad (still have it). Parchment-yellow coloured paper having been printed in black on the top-pages with some Sheep and a Lamb grazing on a field inside a fence with the words 'From my pen...'. I can remember that day of "girlish" frivolity (lots of laughter) - as though it seems to remain from just yesterday. Here are several items (including banter) from that particular day:
* Solid Oak Door by I.C. Mahogany.
* How to make a Sundial by Millie Second.
* Key to successful Farming by Win. Gate.
* Home Gardening by D.T. Thumb.
* Balsa Plane Making by T. Tree.
* Clothes on the Couch by Cotton Pickoff.
* Oriental Countries by Tai.L.And.
* Lifesaving by Bail.'R.Out.
* Torches by Batt.R.Ray.
* Locked Out by Plen.T.Keys.
* Flower Farm by Daffy. Dill.
* Hole in the Ozone-layer by I.C. Pointer.
* Printing-press by Lotta.Ink.
* Polar Bears by I.C. Cold.
* "Outback dunny" (remote/back-country toilet) by Dusty Bottoms.
Funny, huh ?

*** Granddaughter ! .. ***
Our little Granddaughter arrived with her Dad tonight for Dinner. We mainly see them on a Monday night each week for a meal or in Summer it can eventuate to two (2) meals most weeks. She is our first Grandchild and of course, she is an absolute delight! She wore blue "denims" (Jeans) complete with a pastel pink "sloppy joe" (Windcheater) that is lightly embroidered with quilting of the same colour around the neckline. Pretty. She calls my Husband "Poppy" and me "Nanny Kim" in her bestest way. Jade will be two (2) years of age in October this year (it's amazing how quickly children can learn) and it's interestingly lovely being able to watch her joyfully grow!
