~ LOW-fat HIGH flavor/flavour DAL or DAHL recipe ! ~

Serves 4.

1 cup dried lentils
2 cups water
1/2 - 3/4 teaspoon sea salt, or to taste
1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 tablespoons Asian sesame oil
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon ground coriander

IN a saucepan, combine the lentils, water, sea salt, turmeric, and cayenne pepper. BRING to a boil. MEANWHILE, in a large saucepan, heat the sesame oil over medium heat. ADD the onion and saute until soft, about 5 minutes. ADD the cumin and coriander, and cook for 5 minutes longer. ADD the onion mixture to the lentils, cover, and cook over medium heat until the lentils are tender, about 30 minutes.
